Dictations

Dictations: Intensive Listening for Advanced Learners

Dictations was intended to join the Streaming Speech family, but it was never completed. The design was for ten chapters in five pairs: Hobbies, Vacation Jobs, Cities, Education and Holidays. There was to be a British English and US English chapter in each pair. The main idea was for students to answer some simple listening comprehension questions, and then get down to the hard work of transcribing (dictation-style) some of the fastest, most demanding stretches of speech. Below is the first page of Chapter 1 which introduced the speaker and the topic.

And below is the screen on which the students go to work. They click on each line (as often as they wish) and then type in the words that they hear.

And below is the answer screen. There is much more to Dictations. If you are interested, email me richardcauldwell@me.com
